PISCATAWAY, N.J. — In a close contest, the Michigan Wolverines secured their second consecutive victory by defeating the Rutgers Scarlet Knights 66-63 on Saturday. Danny Wolf played a crucial role for Michigan, finishing the game with 16 points and capturing 14 rebounds, while Vladislav Goldin added 14 points to the team’s efforts.

On the Rutgers side, Jamichael Davis led the scoring with 20 points off the bench. Tyson Acuff also contributed significantly with 14 points, and Ace Bailey, the only starter for the Scarlet Knights to reach double digits, added 10 points to the scoreboard.

Michigan took control of the game after Goldin’s layup at the 4:42 mark in the first half, providing the Wolverines with a narrow 22-21 lead. Following this, Sam Walters and Will Tschetter hit back-to-back three-pointers, while Roddy Gayle Jr. contributed a couple of free throws, pushing the lead to 30-21. The Wolverines entered halftime ahead by a score of 32-25.

As the second half unfolded, Acuff hit a jump shot to narrow the gap for Rutgers at 40-35 with 15:06 remaining. Five minutes later, PJ Hayes IV’s three-pointer brought the Scarlet Knights even closer, trailing just 44-41. Zach Martini further trimmed the deficit to its closest point of the second half with a three-point shot, making it 46-44 with 7:53 left on the clock.

However, Michigan increased their lead to 57-50 thanks to a pair of free throws from Goldin. Afterward, Davis hit a three-pointer for Rutgers to cut the lead to four points. Goldin responded with a layup, ensuring that Michigan maintained their lead until the final buzzer. Davis redeemed himself with a three-pointer as time expired, solidifying the 66-63 final score.

Looking ahead, Michigan is set to host 16th-ranked Oregon on Wednesday, while Rutgers will face No. 18 Illinois on the same day.
