Larkin and Raymond propel Red Wings to 3-2 shootout victory over Oilers

In a thrilling matchup on Thursday night, the Detroit Red Wings emerged victorious over the Edmonton Oilers, claiming a 3-2 win in a shootout. Dylan Larkin played a pivotal role in the game, netting a tying goal during the second period and sealing the victory with a successful attempt in the shootout. Alongside him, Lucas Raymond contributed by scoring in the tiebreaker, while the Oilers’ superstar duo, Connor McDavid and Ryan Nugent-Hopkins, were unable to capitalize on their opportunities against Red Wings goalie Alex Lyon, who delivered an impressive performance with 45 saves during regulation and overtime.

The Oilers initially built a strong lead, scoring twice in the first period. Leon Draisaitl found the net for his 36th goal of the season, followed by a goal from Jeff Skinner. However, the Red Wings fought back in the second period, with Michael Rasmussen scoring at the 9:59 mark. Larkin then tied the game with only 8:13 left in the period, shifting the momentum in favor of Detroit.

Stuart Skinner of Edmonton was solid between the pipes, stopping 32 shots. Despite the disappointing outcome, the Oilers had been on an impressive run, looking to extend their winning streak to four games before facing Detroit.

With this win, the Red Wings improved to a 12-4-1 record since Todd McLellan took over as head coach on December 26. As for the Oilers, their streak of three consecutive victories came to an end, though they have celebrated 11 wins in their last 15 games.

Looking ahead, the Red Wings will face off against the Calgary Flames on Saturday night, while the Oilers will host the Toronto Maple Leafs on the same evening.
