Ex-Ball State coach Mike Neu takes on role as senior offensive assistant at Illinois

CHAMPAIGN, Ill. — Mike Neu, the former head coach at Ball State, has officially joined the University of Illinois football team as a senior offensive assistant.
This announcement was made on Thursday by the head coach of Illinois, Bret Bielema.

Neu’s coaching career at Ball State spanned from 2016 to 2024, where he recorded a win-loss record of 40-63 before being let go in November.
At the time of his dismissal, Ball State was struggling with a 3-7 record with just two games left in the season.

In 2020, Neu achieved a significant milestone by leading his team to win the Mid-American Conference championship.
Furthermore, the team secured its first-ever bowl game victory by defeating San Jose State in the Arizona Bowl.
That successful season culminated in the team being ranked 23rd in the Associated Press Top 25 poll.

Before his time at Ball State, Neu was the quarterbacks coach at Tulane from 2012 to 2013.
Additionally, he held a similar position with the New Orleans Saints during the 2014 and 2015 seasons, where he gained valuable experience in the professional realm.
