MANCHESTER, England — Chloe Kelly, the forward for England, has expressed concerns regarding her mental health due to uncertainty about her future as her Manchester City contract nears its expiration in just five months.
Kelly, who famously netted the decisive goal for England during the 2022 Women’s European Championship final, has been rumored to be on the move to Manchester United.
Acknowledging that she is likely not to remain at City, Kelly has voiced her frustration as the January transfer window closes on Thursday. She has articulated feeling “dictated” in terms of which club she may join if she decides to leave at this juncture.
“With the Euros quickly approaching, this summer represents a significant opportunity for me. I want to be in the best possible position to contribute and represent my nation, an honor I hold dearly,” Kelly shared on her Instagram account. “However, being restricted by who I can join with only four months remaining in the football season is greatly affecting both my career and my mental well-being.”
She commented that the ongoing situation has persisted for “too long” and feels “unjust.”
Kelly made her way to City in 2020 from Everton.
She stated, “A vital lesson I have learned throughout my life is that while I can’t control how others behave negatively towards me, I do have the power to determine how long I’m willing to endure it.”
As of now, Manchester City has chosen not to release any statements regarding her post.
