SALT LAKE CITY — The Utah Hockey Club has announced three finalists for the team’s official name, which will be revealed for the upcoming 2025-26 NHL season.

Fans will have the opportunity to participate in the final vote, choosing between the Utah Mammoth, Utah Hockey Club, and the newly introduced finalist, Utah Outlaws. The team revealed on Thursday that it has decided to replace the less popular Wasatch option with Outlaws after gathering input from fans.

“Hello, Utah hockey fans! We value your feedback and have analyzed the survey data collected last night,” the team communicated via social media. “It became evident that Outlaws should replace Wasatch in the final mix.”

The club had initially considered including Yeti as a finalist but ultimately opted out after failing to reach a coexistence agreement with Yeti Coolers regarding the use of the name in their branding and merchandise.

“There is a unique trademark in place that allows them to restrict the usage of the term Yeti or Yetis,” explained Mike Maughan, an executive at Smith Entertainment Group, on Wednesday. “They determined it was in their brand’s best interest not to pursue coexistence.”

Earlier this month, the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office denied the club’s request to use the name, citing concerns over the potential for confusion with other established brands, including Yeti Coolers. Attempts to get a response from Yeti Coolers LLC via email went unanswered.

To facilitate the naming process, fans attending the club’s next three home games will have access to designated iPad voting stations at the Delta Center. This allows fans to view initial designs for the team’s logo, jerseys, and overall branding associated with each name.

Voting will be restricted to fans present at the games scheduled against Columbus on Friday, St. Louis on Sunday, and Philadelphia on Tuesday. The selected team name and logo will be officially unveiled prior to the club’s inaugural regular-season game in 2025-26.

Previously, Wasatch had filled the position left by Yeti among the finalists. This name pays homage to the Wasatch Mountains, which stretch from north to south along the eastern boundary of the Salt Lake Valley.
