PHILADELPHIA — Tragically, a college student has passed away following injuries sustained when he climbed a street pole and subsequently fell while Philadelphia Eagles fans reveled in the excitement of the team’s NFC championship win.

The loss of Tyler Sabapathy, an 18-year-old freshman at Temple University, was confirmed in a statement released on the university’s official website on Tuesday night. Originally from Toronto, Sabapathy was not only a dedicated student in the College of Public Health, focusing on exercise and sport science, but also an accomplished gymnast.

Witnesses reported that Sabapathy ascended the pole, only to tumble down and land on the sidewalk, suffering a serious head injury. Following his fall, he was promptly transported to a local hospital, where he sadly succumbed to his injuries on Tuesday.

Sabapathy had an impressive career in gymnastics, having trained for many years and amassing over 120 medals across various competitions at the provincial, regional, and international levels, as stated in the university’s announcement. Moreover, he was actively involved with the gymnastics team at Temple, contributing to the athletic community there.
