ATHENS, Ga. — In an impressive performance on Tuesday night, Asa Newell led the Georgia Bulldogs to a 71-60 win against South Carolina, scoring 17 points and collecting 10 rebounds.

With this victory, Georgia improved to a record of 15-6, including 3-5 in the Southeastern Conference, breaking a four-game losing streak. Conversely, South Carolina continues to struggle, falling to 10-11 and extending its losing streak to eight games.

In addition to Newell, Dakota Leffew contributed to the Bulldogs’ success with 14 points. The team maintained control throughout the game, never trailing and boasting an impressive shooting percentage of 51%, making 26 of 51 shots. Silas Demary Jr. added 12 points while Dylan James chipped in with 10 points.

For South Carolina, Jamarii Thomas was a standout performer, scoring 16 of his total 19 points in the second half, while Collin Murray-Boyles contributed 18 points.

The Bulldogs started strong with a 14-3 run and held a 35-21 advantage at halftime. Demary Jr. was particularly effective in the first half, scoring 10 points, while Newell and James provided additional support with eight points each. Georgia’s largest lead came when Blue Cain hit a three-pointer, pushing the score to 63-47 with just under five minutes remaining.

Playing at home, Georgia boasts an impressive record of 12-1, which includes comfortable victories against ranked teams like Kentucky and Oklahoma. Their only blemish at home was a narrow 70-68 defeat to the top-ranked Auburn on January 18.

Looking ahead, South Carolina is set to face off against No. 13 Texas A&M on Saturday, while Georgia will travel to take on fourth-ranked Alabama the same day.
