COLUMBUS, Ohio — In an impressive turnaround, Micah Parrish scored 18 points, helping Ohio State secure an 82-65 win over Iowa, ending the Buckeyes’ three-game home losing streak on Monday evening.

Parrish was particularly effective in the second half, contributing 11 points to the team’s total. The victory improves Ohio State’s record to 12-8 and 4-5 in the Big Ten Conference, following a high-profile recent win against then-No. 11 Purdue, where they triumphed 73-70 on the road. Additionally, Parrish grabbed six rebounds during the game.

Ohio State’s Bruce Thornton added 15 points and eight rebounds. Devin Royal contributed 12 points and snagged eight rebounds as well, while John Mobley Jr. finished with 12 points and dished out eight assists.

Drew Thelwell led the Hawkeyes with 20 points, shooting an impressive 8-for-10 from the field, including three successful three-pointers. This performance comes as Iowa, now 13-8 overall and 4-6 in the conference, has dropped four of its last five games. Owen Freeman also made a significant impact with 14 points and eight rebounds, while teammates Seydou Traore and Payton Sandfort both chipped in 13 points each. Sandfort’s three three-pointers brought his career total to 240, tying him with assistant coach Matt Gatens for third on Iowa’s all-time list.

The first half was competitive, with Mobley and Parrish both scoring seven points, allowing the Buckeyes to take a slender 30-26 lead into the halftime break. The Hawkeyes’ Thelwell and Freeman managed to keep the score close, combining for 22 points, which accounted for nearly all of Iowa’s baskets.

As the second half commenced, Royal’s early contributions, including a basket and a three-point play, fueled an 11-3 run by Ohio State, extending their lead to 12 points. While Sandfort hit a three-pointer to trim the deficit to nine, Thornton quickly responded with one of his own, followed by a steal from Sean Stewart who completed a dunk, concluding a 9-0 run for the Buckeyes that made the score 50-32 with 12:26 left.

Ohio State’s largest lead of 62-39 was reached when Stewart made a layup with 8:49 remaining in the game.

Next, Ohio State is set to compete against Penn State on Thursday, while Iowa will host No. 10 Purdue on February 4.
