Barcelona is currently in a prolific scoring phase, having netted significant tallies in recent matches. This includes five goals against Real Madrid during the Spanish Super Cup, another five in a Champions League matchup with Benfica, and most recently, a staggering seven goals in just 24 minutes during a decisive victory over Valencia in La Liga.
The club’s current offensive trio, featuring Robert Lewandowski, Raphinha, and rising star Lamine Yamal, is demonstrating scoring prowess that has not been seen since the days of the famed “MSN” attacking lineup, which included Lionel Messi, Luis Suárez, and Neymar. Under the direction of coach Hansi Flick, Barcelona is continuously breaking records, keeping the club competitive across all competitions this season.
Following the commanding 7-1 win against Valencia, Flick became the second-fastest coach in Barcelona’s history to achieve 100 goals, reaching this milestone in just 32 matches. The only coach to achieve this feat more quickly was Helenio Herrera, who did it in 31 matches during the late 1950s. Notably, Luis Enrique and Tito Vilanova required 34 and Pep Guardiola reached it in 37 matches.
“I admire the eagerness and determination of my players. They didn’t let up at 2-0 or 3-0, they kept pushing until the final whistle, and that’s what I appreciate about this team,” Flick expressed. “Our goal is to deliver performances that lead to trophies; that’s what truly counts.”
With the dismantling of Valencia, this marked the fourth occasion in their last five matches where Barcelona has scored five or more goals. This run followed a dramatic 5-4 comeback victory over Benfica in the Champions League and wins of 5-1 against Real Betis in the Copa and 5-2 against Real Madrid in the Super Cup final.
Barcelona currently boasts two top scorers among the leading goal-scorers in Europe’s top five leagues, with Lewandowski at the forefront with 29 goals, surpassing Manchester City’s Erling Haaland by five and teammate Raphinha by six.
“It’s fantastic to see the abundance of quality players we have, which undoubtedly contributes to our success. The team chemistry is strong, and our morale is high as we continue to perform well,” Flick added.
The team achieved a remarkable feat by scoring four goals within the first 24 minutes of the Valencia match, a milestone not reached since 2008 against Almeria. Additionally, Barcelona last scored five goals in the first half of a match in 2015 against Getafe.
In the league, Barcelona has accumulated 59 goals over 21 matches, leading the charts, with the nearest competitor, Kylian Mbappé’s Madrid, trailing by nine goals. In the Champions League, they have recorded 26 goals in seven matches, outscoring the second-best team, Borussia Dortmund, by seven goals.
With a secured position in the last 16 of the Champions League and a spot in the Copa del Rey quarterfinals, Barcelona currently sits third in La Liga, seven points behind league leaders Madrid.
