Korpisalo records 29 saves versus old team in Bruins’ 2-0 win over Senators

BOSTON — Joonas Korpisalo turned in an impressive performance, recording 29 saves against his previous team as the Boston Bruins defeated the Ottawa Senators 2-0 on Thursday evening.

Korpisalo achieved his third shutout this season and the seventh of his career. He was acquired by the Bruins in June during a trade that saw former Vezina Trophy winner Linus Ullmark head to Ottawa.

In the early stages of the second period, David Pastrnak executed a wraparound maneuver before delivering a precise pass across the crease to Morgan Geekie, who quickly slotted the puck into the net before goaltender Anton Forsberg could reach the puck. Pastrnak capped off the game with an empty-net goal just five seconds before the final buzzer.

Forsberg, in net for Ottawa, managed to make 24 saves. This defeat marked the second consecutive game that the Senators were held scoreless and the fifth time they have struggled to find the net in their last eleven outings.

Regarding recent performances, the Senators fell 5-0 to the New York Rangers just two nights prior. In contrast, the Bruins, after a rough outing where they allowed four second-period goals following an initial 1-0 lead against New Jersey, showed improved defensive play this time around.

A pivotal moment during the match occurred when Boston’s Patrick Brown received a delay-of-game penalty while the team was already down a player, resulting in a two-man advantage for the Senators that lasted 32 seconds midway through the third period. Remarkably, the Senators were unable to register a single shot on goal during that power play opportunity.

In terms of statistics, the Bruins celebrated their ninth victory in the last eleven home games (record of 9-1-1), but only their fourth win out of twelve overall.

Looking ahead, the Senators are set to host the Toronto Maple Leafs on Saturday night, while the Bruins will welcome the Colorado Avalanche at home that same evening.
