BALTIMORE — In an impressive performance on Wednesday evening, Andrew Phillips scored 27 points, contributing significantly to Lafayette’s decisive 80-59 victory over Loyola (Md.).
Phillips also grabbed nine rebounds, demonstrating his all-around capability for the Leopards, who now hold a record of 8-12 and 3-4 in the Patriot League. Alex Chaikin was another standout player, netting 19 points while hitting 6 of 10 attempts from the field, including 4 of 7 from beyond the arc and completing all his free-throw attempts. Caleb Williams contributed an additional 11 points, managing 4 of 9 shooting and registering 1 of 4 from three-point territory.
Milos Ilic was the leading scorer for the Greyhounds, finishing the game with 16 points as Loyola dropped to 8-10, sharing a Patriot League record of 3-4 with Lafayette. The turning point in the game came when Lafayette took control with just under nine minutes left in the first half and maintained that advantage throughout the match. Phillips played a crucial role in the first half, scoring 15 points, which helped the Leopards establish a 45-33 lead at halftime.
The defining moment for Lafayette occurred in the second half, where they unleashed an explosive 18-0 run, widening their lead from a mere six points to an impressive 24-point margin. Phillips led this charge, adding another 12 points in the second half alone.
Both teams are scheduled for action again on Saturday, with Lafayette traveling to Lehigh while Loyola prepares to host Holy Cross.
