STORRS, Conn. — In a commanding performance, Paige Bueckers led the No. 6 UConn Huskies to a decisive 100-57 victory over Villanova on Wednesday evening. Bueckers finished the game with impressive stats, recording 21 points, eight rebounds, and nine assists—all in just three quarters of play.
Sarah Strong complemented Bueckers’ performance with 22 points, while Kaitlyn Chen made a notable contribution with a season-best 17 points as part of UConn’s strong showing. The Huskies, now boasting a record of 18-2 and standing undefeated at 9-0 in the Big East, increased their remarkable streak to 29 consecutive wins in conference regular-season play.
For Villanova, Jasmine Bascoe led the team with 15 points. Her teammates Maddie Burke and Maddie Webber both contributed 11 points to the effort as the Wildcats dropped to 10-10 overall with a 4-4 record in the conference.
Bueckers had an explosive first half, netting 19 points, including nine in a quick span of 3:43. The Huskies displayed their offensive prowess with scoring runs of 12-0, 10-0, and another 10-0 during the half, establishing a commanding 58-32 lead at halftime.
By the end of the third quarter, UConn had extended their lead to 42 points, allowing all starters to rest during the final quarter. Freshman Allie Ziebell capped the scoring with a basket, leading to a final score of 100-54 and marking the second time this season the Huskies reached the 100-point mark.
Notable moments from the game included Burke reaching her career milestone of 200 three-pointers made. Her tally includes 73 three-pointers from her two seasons at Penn State, alongside 128 in 92 games with Villanova.
UConn’s 100 points are the highest the team has ever scored against Villanova in their 64 meetings, surpassing the previous record of 93 points set on January 19, 2002. A pivotal moment in the game occurred when UConn quickly responded with a 12-0 run after Villanova initially opened the scoring.
The shooting accuracy was another highlight for the Huskies, who hit 16 of 18 attempts at one point and registered an impressive 70% shooting percentage in the first half—marking the best first-half shooting performance of the season.
Next up, both teams will return to the court on Saturday, with Villanova set to face Xavier at home while UConn travels to play Creighton.
