HOUSTON — In a dominating performance on Wednesday night, the No. 7 Houston Cougars triumphed over the Utah Utes with a final score of 70-36, marking their 11th consecutive victory of the season. Milos Uzan led the charge for Houston, contributing 14 points, while teammate L.J. Cryer added 13 points. J’Wan Roberts and Terrance Arceneaux also made significant contributions, scoring 11 and 10 points, respectively, as the Cougars improved their record to 15-3 overall and maintained an undefeated 7-0 conference standing in the Big 12.

With this win, Houston extended its impressive run at home, pushing its current streak to 33 consecutive home victories, the longest active streak in the nation. The Cougars displayed solid shooting, hitting 43% from the field, though they struggled from beyond the arc, making just 5 of 18 attempts on three-pointers.

For Utah, Gabe Madsen scored eight points, while Keanu Dawes contributed seven points along with nine rebounds. The Utes, who fell to 11-7 with a 3-4 record in the conference, saw their three-game winning streak come to an end. Utah’s shooting woes plagued them throughout the game, as they managed only 30% from the field and were 5 for 17 from beyond the arc.

Notable aspects of the game included Utah’s difficulties dealing with Houston’s formidable defense. The Cougars applied constant pressure, leading to frustration for the Utes as they were frequently double and triple-teamed. Houston played without their second-leading scorer, Emanuel Sharp, who was sidelined due to an injury, but still managed to perform effectively on both offensive ends of the court.

A critical moment in the match occurred when Cryer sank a jumper to extend Houston’s lead to 10-5 with 16 minutes left in the first half. This shot ignited a remarkable 18-0 scoring run, propelling Houston to a commanding 41-17 lead by halftime.

One of the standout statistics from the contest was Houston’s ability to capitalize on turnovers, forcing Utah into 26 mistakes and converting those into 29 points, including a staggering 19-0 advantage in points off turnovers by the end of the first half. In contrast, Houston maintained control with only five turnovers throughout the game.

Looking ahead, Houston will face an important matchup against No. 12 Kansas on Saturday, while Utah is set to host Baylor on the same day.
