GREAT ABACO, Bahamas — Sudarshan Yellamaraju delivered an impressive performance on Wednesday, finishing without a single bogey and scoring an 8-under 64, which secured him a commanding five-stroke victory in the Bahamas Great Abaco Classic. This tournament marks the second event of the Korn Ferry Tour for the year.
The 23-year-old from Canada started the day with a slim one-shot advantage, which he quickly extended by registering five birdies over a six-hole stretch during the first nine holes at The Abaco Club. Yellamaraju added three more birdies on the back nine, specifically on holes 14, 15, and 17, concluding the tournament with a remarkable total of 25-under 263. This score not only earned him his first professional win but also set a new tournament record dating back to its inception in 2017.
In a notable performance, two-time PGA Tour champion Russell Knox from Scotland and Kensei Hirata from Japan shared the second place, each ending the tournament at 20 under par. Knox, 39, has now placed in the top ten in both Korn Ferry Tour events this season. Meanwhile, Hirata, who has claimed seven victories on the Japan Golf Tour, made his debut on the Korn Ferry stage with notable results.
Originally from India, Yellamaraju relocated with his family to Winnipeg, Manitoba, as a young child and took up golf at the age of six. He entered the professional scene at 19 after opting not to pursue college due to financial constraints, and he has since competed on the PGA Tour Canada. Last season, as a rookie, Yellamaraju placed 99th on the Korn Ferry Tour points list but managed to qualify for the Korn Ferry Tour after a successful stint at qualifying school, ensuring himself eight guaranteed starts for 2025. Following this victory, Yellamaraju is now exempt through the next season and is in an advantageous position to secure a PGA Tour card.
