In DeLand, Florida, a tragic incident occurred when an 8-year-old boy lost his life following an attack by two dogs near the entrance of a housing development. According to the Volusia County Sheriff’s Office, the horrifying event took place on Monday evening, in the central region of the state, situated between Orlando and Daytona Beach.
Residents living in the vicinity rushed to aid the boy by performing CPR and promptly dialed 911 for emergency assistance; however, their efforts to save him proved futile, as he succumbed to his injuries, the sheriff’s office reported.
The animals involved in the attack were apprehended and are currently under the care of the county’s Animal Services. Authorities have identified one dog as a pit bull and the other as a mixed breed. Investigators are diligently examining the details surrounding the attack to determine how such a tragic event occurred.
Sheriff Mike Chitwood expressed his heartfelt condolences, acknowledging the overwhelming sorrow experienced by the boy’s family. “I don’t know what anyone can say to ease the immense pain this family is feeling tonight,” he stated. He further described the situation as an incomprehensible tragedy, particularly resonant for parents and grandparents who can empathetically relate to the family’s grief.
