SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. — In a thrilling finish, Stephan D. Swenson drained a three-point shot just before the buzzer, leading UC Santa Barbara to a 75-72 win over Cal Poly on Saturday evening.
Swenson’s clutch basket followed a layup from Owen Koonce that had tied the game with just 16 seconds remaining on the clock. In addition to his vital three-pointer, Swenson contributed six assists for the Gauchos, boosting their record to 11 wins and 5 losses, with a 3-2 standing in the Big West Conference.
Cole Anderson was another standout for UC Santa Barbara, netting 18 points with an impressive 6-for-9 accuracy from behind the arc. Kenny Pohto also made a solid impact, finishing the game with 13 points, shooting 6-for-11 overall.
For the Mustangs, Koonce was the leading scorer with 23 points, while Peter Bandelj supported the efforts with 18 points and nine rebounds. Mac Riniker added seven points, showcasing his defensive skills with five steals throughout the match.
This exciting matchup highlighted the competitive nature of conference play, as both teams put on a compelling display for the fans.
