MUNICH — Bayern Munich’s goalkeeper Manuel Neuer is poised to make his return to action this Saturday in the Bundesliga match against Borussia Moenchengladbach, marking his first appearance in over a month. However, the team will have to navigate the game without midfielder Jamal Musiala.
The experienced Neuer, who is now 38 years old, has missed the last four league matches of 2024 due to a broken rib. He was also absent from the squad during a recent friendly against Salzburg on Monday. As of Friday, coach Vincent Kompany indicated that Neuer has fully recovered and will be fit to play.
The return of Neuer is considered even more significant following an injury to backup goalkeeper Daniel Peretz, who hurt his kidney during a training session on Wednesday and is anticipated to be sidelined for several weeks, according to Kompany.
Additionally, Kompany confirmed that Musiala, who has been unwell and unable to train, will not be joining the squad this weekend as they contend for the top position in the German league.
The team will also be missing other key players, including midfielder João Palhinha, who has been out since early November due to an adductor muscle injury, and defender Dayot Upamecano, who is serving a one-match suspension after receiving five yellow cards.
