SOUTH BEND, Ind. — In a commanding performance, the No. 3 ranked Notre Dame women’s basketball team triumphed over Wake Forest with a hefty score of 100-64 on Thursday night.
Hannah Hidalgo led the charge for the Fighting Irish, contributing 23 points and recording six steals, showcasing her defensive prowess.
Alongside her, Liatu King put up 17 points, while Sonia Citron and Olivia Miles added 16 and 13 points, respectively, with Miles also dishing out nine assists.
This victory marks a continued low for Wake Forest, as Notre Dame has claimed victory in all 13 encounters between the two schools.
For Wake Forest, Elise Williams emerged as a standout player with 18 points, supported by Demeara Hinds with 17 points and Malaya Cowles contributing 15 points.
The game saw Notre Dame’s defense ignite a significant 15-2 scoring run that transitioned the score to a commanding 40-19 in the second quarter.
During this stretch, the Fighting Irish capitalized on four turnovers committed by the Demon Deacons and maintained a high shooting percentage, hitting six of their seven shots.
Notable performances also included Maddy Westbeld, who seemed to regain her form after a foot surgery in August.
Following a quiet return in her previous game with no points and just one rebound, she made a notable impact in this matchup with 13 points and six rebounds across 18 minutes.
Despite the heavy defeat, Wake Forest’s bench managed to slightly outscore Notre Dame’s reserves, 28-27, yet they were overshadowed by the starters, who faced a deficit of 73-36 against their counterparts.
A pivotal moment occurred right from the start when Hidalgo showcased her defensive skills by stealing the ball from a Wake Forest player, leading to a fast-break pass from Miles.
This sequence was part of a strong 10-0 run that set the tone for the game.
The Fighting Irish maintained an impressive shooting percentage throughout, finishing at 55.2% from the floor.
Both teams will look to regroup as Notre Dame prepares for its upcoming clash against Clemson this Sunday, while Wake Forest will face Virginia Tech on the same day.
