Eagles quarterback Hurts back in practice for the first time following concussion recovery

PHILADELPHIA — Jalen Hurts has returned to practice with the Eagles, albeit in a limited capacity for the moment. All indications suggest that the star quarterback is on track to start in the NFC wild-card playoff game this weekend.

On Wednesday, Hurts participated in practice for the first time since suffering a concussion during Week 16. He is anticipated to be ready for the Sunday matchup against the Green Bay Packers at home. Offensive lineman Lane Johnson noted, “He’s been dialed in. He’s been limited in what he can do physically, obviously. But mentally, he’s sharp.”

The Eagles had not provided any updates regarding Hurts’ health since he exited the game against Washington on December 22. Missing the final two games allowed backups Kenny Pickett and Tanner McKee to step in and help the Eagles secure victories, while head coach Nick Sirianni had only mentioned that Hurts was still in the NFL concussion protocol.

In preparation for the playoff game, the Eagles utilized their home field, Lincoln Financial Field, for practice to acclimate to the environment, particularly with frigid temperatures expected in the 20s. Although he did not address the media, Hurts impressed teammates with his performance and energy during practice, with offensive tackle Jordan Mailata stating, “He looked sharp, really sharp. A lot of energy. Out there in short-sleeves.”

With familiarity on his side, the 26-year-old Hurts is looking forward to his return. During the season opener, he completed 20 of 34 passes for 278 yards, achieving two touchdowns and two interceptions in a close 34-29 win over the Packers.
