EVANSTON, Ill. — Ty Berry showcased his shooting skills by hitting five three-pointers and finishing with 23 points, while Brooks Barnhizer added a remarkable 22 points and 10 rebounds, marking his sixth consecutive double-double. Their performance helped Northwestern secure a decisive 85-60 victory over Northeastern on Sunday.
Berry had an impressive shooting night, hitting 8 of 10 shots, with the only two misses coming from long range. The Wildcats, boasting a record of 10-3, have now won four games in a row and maintained a perfect home record with eight victories. Barnhizer also contributed significantly to the scoreboard, making 7 of 13 attempts from the floor, along with 8 of 10 free throws, while also dishing out seven assists.
Nic Martinelli chipped in with 16 points, and Jalen Leach added 11 points, connecting on three three-pointers and providing four assists.
From the Huskies’ side, LA Pratt was the standout player, leading his team with 18 points on an impressive 8-for-12 shooting, while also collecting seven rebounds and dishing out four assists. Masai Troutman had a solid performance as well, hitting 4 of 5 three-pointers and scoring 17 points.
Pratt got the game off to a strong start for Northeastern, hitting two three-pointers early on and contributing to a 14-2 run. However, Northwestern responded by rallying to take their first lead at 28-27, courtesy of a three-pointer from Leach with just over three minutes left in the first half. Berry then sealed the half by hitting another three-pointer, taking the Wildcats into halftime with a slim 35-33 lead.
At the start of the second half, Pratt attempted to tie the game with a jumper, but Berry quickly answered with a three-pointer followed by a paint basket from Barnhizer, allowing Northwestern to lead for the remainder of the contest.
Looking ahead, Northwestern will travel to face Penn State in an upcoming Big Ten Conference matchup on Thursday, while Northeastern will return home to host Delaware in their Coastal Athletic Association opener on the same day.
