Infielder Ehire Adrianza has decided to hang up his cleats following an impressive 12-season career in Major League Baseball.
At 35 years of age, Adrianza made his retirement announcement via an emotional post on Instagram earlier this week.
His career included a significant highlight in 2021 when he was part of the Atlanta Braves team that claimed the World Series title.
Throughout his time in the league, he posted a batting average of .237, with 22 home runs and 151 RBIs, representing teams such as the San Francisco Giants (2013-2016), Minnesota Twins (2017-2020), Atlanta Braves (2021-2024), Washington Nationals (2022), and the Los Angeles Angels.
In February, he signed a minor league contract with the Angels but began his season at Triple-A Salt Lake, where he managed to hit .192 with one home run and two RBIs over a span of eight games between April 22 and May 8.
Adrianza experienced back spasms that led him to the injured list, and he was ultimately released by the Angels on June 15.
Reflecting on his journey, he shared, “I still find it hard to believe that I have had the honor of playing more than a decade in the major leagues.
I never imagined I would achieve so much, and it’s astonishing to reflect on this experience.”
As Adrianza steps away from the game he has loved for over a decade, his contributions and memories will surely linger in the hearts of fans and teammates alike.
