LONDON — Ben Stokes, the captain of the England cricket team, has been sidelined for a minimum of three months due to a torn left hamstring.
According to a statement released by the England and Wales Cricket Board, Stokes is set to undergo surgery for the injury next month.
The allrounder sustained the injury during the third test match against New Zealand in Hamilton one week ago, leading to his current condition.
At 33 years old, Stokes was already omitted from the England squad that was revealed on Sunday for the upcoming Champions Trophy scheduled in February and March in Pakistan.
In the past, hamstring problems have also caused Stokes to miss the home series against Sri Lanka during the summer and the first test match in Pakistan back in October.
