HONOLULU — Gytis Nemeiksa delivered a standout performance for Hawaii, contributing 24 points in their 78-61 victory over Charlotte during the Diamond Head Classic on a Sunday evening.
In addition to Nemeiksa’s scoring, he also pulled down seven rebounds for the Rainbow Warriors, who improved their record to 7-3. Marcus Greene was another key player in the matchup, scoring 22 points with an efficient 8 for 15 shooting, which included three successful attempts from beyond the arc and three out of six from the free-throw line. Tom Beattie added nine points to the scoreline, hitting four of six shots from the field.
Looking ahead, Hawaii is set to face Nebraska in the next round of the tournament, while Charlotte will meet Murray State in the consolation bracket on Monday.
The 49ers, who now hold a 6-5 record, were led in scoring by Jaehshon Thomas, who netted 16 points. Nik Graves also played a significant role, contributing 13 points along with six rebounds and three steals. Additionally, Robert Braswell added nine points and recorded two blocks.
Hawaii established control of the game early on, taking the lead just over 18 minutes into the first half and maintaining it throughout the contest. By halftime, they held a solid 44-31 advantage, bolstered by Greene’s 14 points. The Warriors stretched their lead further during the second half, reaching a peak of 55-37, aided by a decisive 9-0 scoring streak. Nemeiksa was instrumental down the stretch, scoring 12 points in the latter half to help secure the victory for Hawaii.
