HOUSTON — Andrew Akuchie contributed significantly to Rice’s 64-46 victory over Prairie View A&M on Sunday, scoring 14 points along with securing nine rebounds and three steals for the Owls, who improved their record to 9-4.

Trae Broadnax also had a noteworthy performance with 13 points and rounded out his stats with ten rebounds and eight assists. On the opposing side, Prairie View A&M, now sitting at 1-11, was led by Nick Anderson, who notched 18 points, claimed 10 rebounds, and recorded two steals. Tanahj Pettway made a solid contribution with his 12 points, while Marcel Bryant added five points to the scoreboard. This defeat marks the 11th consecutive loss for the Panthers.

In the first half, Akuchie registered six points, helping his team enter halftime behind with a score of 27-23. However, after the break, Rice came out strong, flipping a seven-point disadvantage into a commanding 19-point lead. The Owls ignited a 14-2 run that propelled them to a 60-41 advantage with just under four minutes left in the game. Broadnax played a crucial role in this turnaround, scoring eight of his points in the second half to help secure the win.
