NEWARK, N.J. — In an exciting matchup, Nicole Hensley delivered two back-to-back saves during the shootout, leading the Minnesota Frost to a thrilling 4-3 victory over the New York Sirens on Sunday, marking their fourth consecutive win.

This contest marked the fourth instance in seven total encounters that the teams found themselves in overtime, with this being the second time this season. The Sirens had previously claimed victory in their season opener held in St. Paul.

Kendall Coyne Schofield electrified the game early on by scoring twice in the first period, propelling the Frost to a swift advantage. Afterward, Taylor Heise added to the score by finding the net just two minutes into the second period against Kayle Osborne, who had taken over for New York’s starting goalie Abigail Levy.

Despite the initial struggle, Osborne managed to maintain her composure, preventing any further goals during regulation and facing minimal attempts in overtime. The Sirens mounted a comeback, with Brooke Hobson and Elizabeth Giguère netting goals in the second period, followed by Alex Carpenter scoring midway through the third period, tying the game by deftly lifting a shot over Hensley’s shoulder from deep in the face-off circle.

Hensley showcased her skills in overtime, effectively stopping four close-range shots from the Sirens, which included two breakaway opportunities.

During the shootout, Minnesota (4-0-1-0) saw goals from Denisa K?ížová, Grace Zumwinkle, and Heise. New York managed to get goals from Noora Tulus and Carpenter, but Hensley was pivotal, blocking Sarah Fillier’s attempt and then stopping the last two shooters, sealing the win.

Hensley concluded the match with a strong performance, recording 33 saves on 36 shots. On the other end, Osborne made 18 saves from 19 shots during her 45 minutes on the ice for New York. Carpenter’s impressive two-goal performance propelled her ahead of Coyne Schofield, securing her position at the top of the league with four goals in her first five games and giving her a total of seven points, marking her as a player to watch as the season progresses.
