EL PASO, Texas — In a thrilling matchup, UTEP secured a narrow 75-74 victory over Yale on Saturday night, clinching the title at the Don Haskins Basketball Invitational.
Otis Frazier III was instrumental in the win, contributing 15 points along with five rebounds for the Miners, who improved their record to 9-3. Devon Barnes also played a key role, scoring 12 points with an impressive shooting performance of 4 for 8, including 4 for 7 from three-point range. Additionally, David Terrell Jr. added 11 points, showcasing his versatility by shooting 3 of 6 from the field and sinking 5 of 6 free throws.
On the other side, Riley Fox led the scoring for the Bulldogs with 19 points. Yale’s Isaac Celiscar had a solid showing as well, contributing 13 points and grabbing eight rebounds, while Nick Townsend rounded out the notable performances with 11 points and 13 rebounds.
UTEP headed into halftime with a solid 45-33 lead, thanks in part to Barnes, who tallied nine points in the first half. However, the second half saw Yale rally back, outscoring UTEP by 11 points. Despite the pressure, UTEP held on for victory, aided by Frazier’s seven points during the second half to secure the win.
