NEW YORK — Lauri Markkanen led the Utah Jazz with 21 points, while Collin Sexton and Svi Mykhailiuk each contributed 18 points, helping the team secure a 105-94 victory against the Brooklyn Nets on Saturday evening.
With a record of 7-20, the Jazz have struggled this season but now celebrate back-to-back wins for the first time. Their previous win was a competitive 126-119 matchup against the Detroit Pistons on Thursday. Both recent victories were achieved on the road, where the Jazz improved their standing to 5-20.
In addition to Markkanen’s performance, John Collins recorded his contribution with 13 points and 11 rebounds, and Jordan Clarkson added 16 points for Utah. This comes after the team faced a tough stretch, having lost 12 of their last 15 games.
On the side of the Nets, Cam Johnson scored 18 points while Ben Simmons notched 15 points and 10 assists, although the team has now lost seven of their last nine games.
Notably, Utah’s Keyonte George, who leads the Jazz with an average of 5.7 assists per game, did not participate due to a sprained left ankle. This matchup also marked Simmons’ first double-double of the season.
A pivotal moment of the game occurred when Utah was trailing 39-33 with slightly under four minutes left in the second quarter. They managed to turn the tide by outscoring Brooklyn 17-6 to enter halftime with a 50-45 lead, a momentum they maintained throughout the game. During this critical stretch, the Nets struggled offensively, making only two of nine field goals while also committing a turnover.
The Jazz’s victory marks their first consecutive wins since April 11 and 12, 2023, when they beat the Rockets at home and the Clippers in Los Angeles. Moreover, this is their first road winning streak since late January, when they won against the Wizards and the Hornets.
Looking ahead, the Jazz are set to take on the Cleveland Cavaliers on Monday night, while the Nets will travel to Miami the same evening.
