EL PASO, Texas — In a competitive matchup on Friday, Otis Frazier III contributed 16 points to propel UTEP to a 67-61 win over Jackson State.
Frazier displayed a solid shooting performance, completing 5 of 11 attempts, including 1 of 4 from long range, and hitting 5 of 8 at the charity stripe for the Miners, now boasting an 8-3 record.
Additionally, Kevin Kalu made notable contributions with 12 points and an equal number of rebounds, while Ahamad Bynum also netted 12 points, demonstrating efficiency by converting 4 of 7 attempts—3 of those from three-point territory.
For Jackson State, who fell to 0-11, Romelle Mansel led the effort with 17 points, along with six rebounds and three steals.
Teammate Jayme Mitchell supported with 13 points and seven rebounds, while Juan Reyna chipped in with nine points, seven rebounds, and two steals. This loss extended the Tigers’ difficult streak to eleven consecutive defeats.
The game saw UTEP head into halftime with a 31-22 advantage, an effort fueled by Frazier’s 11 points during the first half.
In a dominant second-half performance, UTEP surged ahead with a 7-0 run, increasing their lead to as much as 22 points at 63-41 with just over five minutes remaining.
Looking ahead, both teams are scheduled to play again on Saturday. UTEP will face Northern New Mexico at home, while Jackson State is set to hit the road to compete against Cal Baptist.
