Trump plans to appoint leader of Catholic advocacy organization as US envoy to the Vatican

WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. — On Friday, President-elect Donald Trump announced his nomination of Brian Burch, the president of CatholicVote, to serve as the U.S. ambassador to the Vatican.

Brian Burch, who co-founded CatholicVote, resides in the suburbs of Chicago with his wife, Sara, and their nine children. In a social media post regarding this nomination, Trump expressed confidence in Burch’s dedication, stating, “Brian loves his Church and the United States – He will make us all proud.”

In a subsequent social media message, Burch articulated his ambition for the role, emphasizing his commitment to uphold the dignity of individuals and promote the common good.

According to AP VoteCast, a comprehensive survey conducted during the November elections, about 22% of voters identified as Catholic, with Trump capturing 55% of this demographic. In the 2020 election, Catholic voters were nearly evenly divided between Trump and then-candidate Joe Biden, a devout Catholic scheduled to meet with Pope Francis in January during his last trip as president.
