Kopitar and Fiala net two goals each as Kings come back to defeat Flyers 7-3

PHILADELPHIA — On Thursday night, the Los Angeles Kings overcame a deficit to secure a convincing 7-3 victory against the Philadelphia Flyers, with Anze Kopitar and Kevin Fiala both contributing two goals each to their team’s success.

In a crucial moment during the final minute of the second period, Kopitar managed to tie the game, followed by scoring again in the third period after cleverly redirecting a pass from teammate Alex Turcotte. Darcy Kuemper, the Kings’ goaltender, played a key role by stopping 23 attempts from the Flyers.

Kopitar has been on a scoring streak, earning at least one point in 19 of his last 24 outings, although this marked his first multi-goal performance since netting three goals on the season opener.

Warren Foegele also made a significant impact, deflecting a shot from Jordan Spence past Philadelphia goalie Aleksei Kolosov just 1:54 into the third period to give the Kings the lead.

Fiala was instrumental throughout the game, scoring both the opening and final goals, while Tanner Jeannot and Quinton Byfield added to the Kings’ tally. This victory marked the Kings’ eighth win out of their last eleven encounters.

From the Flyers’ perspective, Tyson Foerster was a standout player, scoring twice, and Noah Cates added one goal. Despite several solid performances, this loss marked Philadelphia’s third consecutive setback. Kolosov, in goal for the Flyers, recorded 20 saves in the match.

Looking at broader trends, the Kings have successfully allowed three goals or fewer for ten straight games, and they currently stand as the team that has faced the fewest shots in the NHL this season, having given up 26 shots to Philadelphia.

On the Flyers’ side, Coach John Tortorella made the decision to scratch defenseman Cam York, noting that York appeared to be struggling to regain his form since returning from a shoulder injury.

One pivotal moment in the game occurred when Kolosov failed to retrieve a loose puck in the final moments of the second period, enabling Kopitar to easily net the equalizer. This event proved to be a turning point in the match’s momentum.

In terms of statistics, the Flyers notably accumulated 137 points this season from players aged 25 and under, ranking third in the NHL. This includes Foerster’s contributions, Cates’ goal, and an assist from Bobby Brink.

As for what lies ahead, the Kings are set to continue their seven-game road trip with a matchup against Nashville on Saturday, while the Flyers will host the Columbus Blue Jackets on the same day.
