AMHERST, Mass. — In an exciting game on Wednesday night, Jaylen Curry led the University of Massachusetts (UMass) to a 77-72 victory over Northeastern University, scoring 24 points. Curry’s impressive performance also included five steals, helping the Minutemen improve their record to 5-7 for the season.
Malek Abdelgowad contributed significantly to the team’s success with a solid performance, scoring 12 points on an efficient 4 of 6 shooting from the field, along with making 3 out of 6 free throws. Abdelgowad also recorded an impressive 11 rebounds. Daniel Rivera supported the scoring with another 12 points, though he shot 3 of 10 from the field and was less effective at the free-throw line, hitting 6 out of 12 attempts.
On the other side, the Huskies, who now hold an 8-4 record, were led by Rashad King. King had a notable night, notching a double-double with 19 points and 11 rebounds while also contributing two steals. Teammate LA Pratt had a strong outing as well, scoring 18 points, grabbing eight rebounds, and adding four assists. Masai Troutman also joined the scoring effort for Northeastern with 18 points.
The halftime score saw UMass leading Northeastern by five points, 35-30, setting the stage for a competitive second half.
