Central Missouri’s quarterback Zach Zebrowski is one of four athletes who have earned a spot on the first team of the AP Division II All-America team for the second consecutive year, as revealed on Wednesday.
Joining Zebrowski in this elite recognition are Marquise Fleming, a defensive lineman from Wingate; Peyton Buckley, a defensive back from Augustana in South Dakota; and Blake Doud, a punter from Colorado Mines.
Zebrowski’s remarkable performance this season earned him the prestigious 2023 Harlon Hill Trophy, given to Division II’s best player. He had an exceptional year with 40 touchdown passes and an average of 393.7 passing yards per game over the course of 12 games.
Additionally, Trinidad Chambliss, a dual-threat quarterback from Ferris State, garnered the title of first-team all-purpose player. He has an impressive record, throwing for 23 touchdowns while also running for an equal number as he prepares for Saturday’s national championship clash against Valdosta State in McKinney, Texas.
Zebrowski and Chambliss are part of a bigger cohort of six finalists for the Harlon Hill Trophy named in the first team roster. The other finalists include Chavon Wright, a running back from Charleston, West Virginia; Jada Byers, a running back from Virginia Union; Sammy Edwards, a quarterback from Valdosta State; and Reggie Retzlaff, a wide receiver from CSU Pueblo.
The All-America team selections are determined by a committee of sports information directors from the four super regions of Division II.
On the first-team offensive lineup, the quarterback position is secured by Zach Zebrowski from Central Missouri. The running backs include Jada Byers from Virginia Union and Chavon Wright from Charleston, West Virginia.
The offensive line features Jaheim Bassham from California (Pa.), Gabe Brown from Grand Valley State, Will Flowers from Valdosta State, Jake Gannon from Bemidji State, and Nic Van de Graaf from Colorado Mines. Gabe Hagen from Minnesota State stands out as the tight end.
The wide receivers are Terrill Davis from Central Oklahoma, Tyler Kahmann from Emporia State, and Reggie Retzlaff from CSU Pueblo. Trinidad Chambliss from Ferris State rounds out the first-team offense as the all-purpose player. The kicking duties go to Anthony Beitko from California (Pa.).
On the defensive side, the first team consists of linemen Marquise Fleming from Wingate, Ricky Freymond from Western Colorado, Todd Hill from Slippery Rock, and Gage Price from Harding.
The linebackers selected are Benari Black from Johnson C. Smith, Clark Griffin from Harding, and Colin Stuhr from Colorado Mesa. The defensive back positions are filled by Peyton Buckley from Augustana, Larry Elder from Valdosta State, Andrew Pitts from Angelo State, and newcomer Lashon Young from Miles. Blake Doud from Colorado Mines serves as the punter for the first-team defense.
Shifting to the second-team offense, Sammy Edwards from Valdosta State is recognized at quarterback. The running backs include Ronald Blackman from Tiffin and Shane Watts from Fort Hays State.
On the offensive line for the second team, the players are Jaelon Brown from Delta State, Gabe Clark from Central Missouri, Joe Cooper from Slippery Rock, Jake Duggar from Harding, and Bryce George from Ferris State. Cameron Woods from Northeastern State is the listed tight end, while the wide receivers feature Cam Abshire from Emory & Henry, Flynn Schiele from Colorado Mines, and Reginald Vick Jr. from Virginia Union.
Drew Nash from Western Colorado and Shea Ruddy from Hillsdale are recognized as all-purpose players on the second-team offense. The kicker spots are filled by Joseph Carlson from Midwestern State and freshman Ben Rudolph from Tiffin.
In second-team defense, the linemen comprise Isaac Anderson from Virginia Union, Jamair Diaz from Glenville State, Jake Fisher from Northwest Missouri State, Marcus Hansen from Bemidji State, and Traevon Mitchell from West Florida.
The linebacker positions on this roster belong to Jake Adams from Northern State, Wilfredo Diaz from Edinboro, and Eric Rascoe from Angelo State. The defensive backs include Daniel Bone III from CSU Pueblo, Rashan Murray from California (Pa.), Josh Stokes from Slippery Rock, and Tanner Volk from Central Washington. Brenden Lach from Michigan Tech is the second-team punter.
