NORRISTOWN, Pa. — Two men, who learned about a stash of firearms during their junk removal jobs, allegedly entered the incorrect residence and shot a woman in her bed before fatally shooting her son earlier this month, according to prosecutors.
Bernadette Gaudio, 61, was left paralyzed after being shot multiple times. She was bedridden due to a medical condition, as stated by Montgomery County District Attorney Kevin Steele during a press briefing on Tuesday. Her 25-year-old son, Andrew Gaudio, lost his life when he was shot in the head while attempting to shield his mother from the attackers, officials reported.
“The intention here was to steal firearms, but they simply broke into the wrong house,” Steele explained regarding the incident.
During the home invasion that took place on December 8 in Lower Merion, Bernadette managed to call 911 for help. The assailants fled the scene with a jewelry box and a Jeep, authorities reported.
Detectives tracked a vehicle linked to one of the suspects back to a residence in Philadelphia and discovered the stolen jewelry box there. At the home of the other suspect, they found a 3D printer and tools that are typically used to manufacture untraceable ghost guns, along with a 9mm ghost gun thought to be responsible for Andrew Gaudio’s death.
Both men, who worked together, have been charged with first-degree murder among other allegations and are currently being held without bail.
