Keely Hodgkinson has been honored with the title of BBC Sports Personality of the Year for 2024 after her remarkable achievement of winning the 800 meters event at the Olympic Games held in Paris.
This marks the fourth consecutive year that a female athlete has secured the prestigious award, following the victories of soccer players Mary Earps in 2023 and Beth Mead in 2022, along with tennis star Emma Raducanu, who won in 2021.
The 22-year-old Hodgkinson not only clinched the Olympic gold but also successfully defended her European title, all while setting a new British record with an impressive time of 1 minute, 54.61 seconds. This achievement has positioned her as the sixth fastest woman in history in the 800 meters event.
In the public vote, darts sensation Luke Littler came in second after finishing as the runner-up in the world championship at just 16 years old. England cricketer Joe Root was awarded the third-place honor during the ceremony held in Salford.
