DETROIT — A major recall has been initiated involving over 541,000 replacement winter tires in the United States due to inadequate snow traction that fails to meet North American requirements.
Prinx Chengshan Tire North America is recalling a wide range of sizes of its Fortune Tormenta and Prinx Hicountry tire models, all of which bear the three-peak mountain snowflake icon on their sidewalls.
According to documents released on Tuesday by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), although these tires passed testing in Europe, they likely do not meet the traction standards required for safe use in North America.
The NHTSA has indicated that tires lacking enough snow traction could elevate the risk of getting into an accident, highlighting the importance of quality and safety in winter tire performance.
Prinx Chengshan is currently developing a solution to rectify this safety issue. Affected tire owners will receive notification letters beginning on February 1st. Questions or concerns regarding this recall can be directed to the company at (310) 205-8355, extension 109.
