The New York Mets have made a noteworthy addition to their roster by officially signing infielder Jared Young to a one-year deal. This move follows the departure of their star first baseman, Pete Alonso, who has entered free agency this offseason.

Young’s contract entails a salary of $1.15 million when he is in the major leagues and $425,000 if he finds himself in the minor leagues. Over the course of his career, Young carries a batting average of .210, with two home runs and eight runs batted in (RBIs), compiling a .725 on-base plus slugging (OPS) across 22 games and 69 plate appearances with the Chicago Cubs during the 2022 and 2023 seasons.

In November 2023, Young was claimed off waivers by the St. Louis Cardinals, where he played a pivotal role at Triple-A Memphis. This year, he achieved an impressive batting average of .285, with 11 home runs and a remarkable OPS of .917 before he was released in July.

Following his stint in the minor leagues, Young made his way to Korea, participating in 38 games for the Doosan Bears. During his time there, he showcased his skills by hitting .326, accumulating 10 homers, 39 RBIs, and an outstanding OPS of 1.080.

At 29 years old, Young is a left-handed hitter hailing from Canada. He was originally drafted by the Cubs in the 15th round of the 2017 amateur draft, coming from Old Dominion University in Virginia. Despite having played all 12 of his major league starts at first base, he has also shown versatility in the minors by playing every position except for catcher and center field.
