The national player of the week in women’s basketball for Week 5 has been recognized as JuJu Watkins from USC.
The sophomore guard delivered an impressive performance, averaging 30.5 points, 4.0 rebounds, 1.5 assists, and 1.5 blocks across two victories for the Trojans.
Notably, she broke a school record by sinking nine 3-pointers in a single game against California Baptist, where she also scored her season’s best of 40 points.
This achievement marks her third 40-point game in her career, making her only the third player in USC history to reach such a milestone, alongside legends Cheryl Miller and Cherie Nelson.

In contention for the award, Sarah Strong from UConn stood out as the runner-up.
The freshman forward averaged 21.5 points during wins over Holy Cross and Louisville, showcasing an impressive shooting percentage of 77.3% from the field.
Additionally, she contributed 7.5 rebounds and 2.5 assists per game during this stretch.
For the season, Strong’s averages against ranked teams have been strong, with 15 points and nine rebounds.

Also receiving honorable mentions are Ta’Niya Latson from Florida State, Ashlyn Watkins from South Carolina, and Mikaylah Williams from LSU.
Fans should also take note of Colorado State guard Brooke Carlson, who played a pivotal role in her team’s thrilling overtime victory against Gonzaga, which ended with a score of 74-72.
Carlson recorded 18 points and five assists, shooting 5-for-11 from the field, and was integral in the second half and overtime, putting up 13 points, including the decisive layup with just 2 seconds on the clock.
