CHICAGO — Grady Sizemore will continue with the Chicago White Sox as the offensive coordinator, taking on a crucial role under the leadership of first-year manager Will Venable.
Following the dismissal of Pedro Grifol in August, Sizemore briefly served as the interim manager. During his tenure, the team struggled, finishing with a dismal 13-32 record, contributing to an overall performance of 41-121 for the season. This marked a historic low for the franchise, breaking the record for losses in a season since 1900.
After Venable’s appointment in October, he expressed his intention to include Sizemore in his coaching staff, highlighting the value he sees in the former player.
On Monday, the White Sox made an official announcement regarding Sizemore’s position along with the coaching roster for the 2024 season. Alongside Sizemore, several other coaches will remain with the team. These include pitching coach Ethan Katz, hitting coach Marcus Thames, assistant pitching coach Matt Wise, first base/outfield coach Jason Bourgeois, third base/infield coach Justin Jirschele, and catching coach Drew Butera, all of whom will continue their roles.
Additionally, Walker McKinven has been appointed as the bench coach for the team. The 35-year-old has spent the last five years working on the coaching staff of the Milwaukee Brewers, where he was responsible for run prevention for the NL Central champions earlier this season. Meanwhile, Joel McKeithan joins the White Sox as an assistant hitting coach after previously serving as the hitting coach for the Cincinnati Reds over the last two seasons. He initially entered the Reds organization as the assistant hitting coach prior to the 2022 season.
The White Sox also announced that Mike Gellinger and Doug Sisson, who had recently joined the coaching staff in August, will be reassigned within the organization as part of the restructuring ahead of the new season.
