‘Emilia Pérez’ leads Golden Globe nominations with 10, followed by ‘The Brutalist’ and ‘Conclave’

The 82nd Golden Globe Awards are shaping up to be a night of glitz and intrigue, led by Jacques Audiard’s daring musical Emilia Pérez. The film, about a Mexican drug lord undergoing gender-affirming surgery, earned a staggering 10 nominations on Monday, surpassing heavy-hitters like the Broadway-inspired Wicked, the gripping papal thriller Conclave, and the sweeping post-war drama The Brutalist.

Mindy Kaling and Morris Chestnut unveiled the nominations during a televised announcement, setting the stage for the January 5 awards show, which will air on CBS and stream on Paramount+.

Star-Studded Field Shines Amid Globe’s Comeback Effort

After years of scandal and upheaval, the Golden Globes are still in recovery mode following the disbandment of the Hollywood Foreign Press Association. Despite the turbulence, this year’s star-packed nominee list is a testament to the awards’ enduring appeal. Zendaya, Timothée Chalamet, Angelina Jolie, Daniel Craig, Ariana Grande, and Selena Gomez are among the A-listers vying for awards.

One standout nomination is the controversial drama The Apprentice, which chronicles the young Donald Trump. Starring Sebastian Stan as Trump and Jeremy Strong as Roy Cohn, the film has already sparked backlash, with the former president-elect labeling it a “politically disgusting hatchet job.”

Golden Globes Navigate Post-HFPA Era

The Globes have been rebuilding their reputation after the Hollywood Foreign Press Association’s disbandment. Now under the management of Dick Clark Productions and billionaire Todd Boehly’s Eldridge Industries, the organization is facing fresh scrutiny, including legal challenges to its acquisition.

With dazzling nominees and a reinvigorated format, the 82nd Golden Globes aim to recapture their place in Hollywood’s awards season spotlight.
