HARARE, Zimbabwe — Zimbabwe has announced the inclusion of Ben Curran in their squad for the upcoming one-day international series against Afghanistan this month. The 28-year-old batsman recently expressed his desire to represent the country, following in the footsteps of his late father, Kevin Curran, who was born in Zimbabwe and was known for his cricketing prowess.
Zimbabwe Cricket highlighted Curran’s domestic performance as a key factor in his selection, stating that he has demonstrated exceptional talent in recent matches. This call-up marks a significant step for Curran, who was born in Northampton while his father played in England’s county cricket system. Despite being born outside Zimbabwe, all three brothers, including Sam and Tom Curran, have chosen to pursue their cricketing careers with England, although they were raised in their father’s homeland.
Ben Curran is expected to play in two test matches against Afghanistan, scheduled for Boxing Day and the New Year. The one-day series will kick off in Harare on December 17, marking an important event for the Zimbabwean cricket team. Additionally, there is the possibility of a historic encounter in 2025 when Zimbabwe tours England, as it could lead to the Curran brothers competing against each other on the international stage, a unique situation in the realm of cricket.
