LONDON — Olympic and world champion cyclist Katy Marchant is on the mend following an accident that left her with fractures in her right arm and dislocated fingers. The incident occurred during the Track Champions League event in London when Marchant collided with fellow competitor Alessa-Catriona Propster. The crash sent both cyclists tumbling into the crowd, resulting in injuries to several spectators, as reported by the International Cycling Union.
British Cycling provided an update on Marchant’s condition, stating that she is “in good spirits and is receiving excellent care from her medical team.” Following the incident, both Propster and the injured spectators managed to leave the Lee Valley VeloPark after receiving on-site medical assistance, while Marchant was the only one requiring hospitalization.
The accident led to a suspension of the event shortly after it occurred. Marchant is notably recognized for her achievements in cycling, where she won a gold medal in the team sprint alongside teammates Sophie Capewell and Emma Finucane during the Paris Olympics. This talented trio also secured gold in the same event at the world championships held in Denmark in October.
