Stellantis is initiating a recall of over 300,000 Ram Heavy Duty pickup trucks due to a defect in a component that could compromise certain braking and stability systems.
The automaker, based in the Netherlands, has identified that the hydraulic control unit within these trucks is susceptible to malfunction, which may result in the failure of the anti-lock brake, electronic stability control, and traction control systems. However, Stellantis confirmed that the regular braking functions remain unaffected by this faulty part and has stated it is not aware of any injuries resulting from the issue.
The recall affects Ram trucks from the 2017 to 2018 model years, specifically including the Ram 2500, 3500, 4500, and 5500 models. A total of 317,630 trucks are included in this recall, which also covers a limited number of vehicles outside the U.S., such as those in Canada and Mexico.
To address this situation, Stellantis plans to inform affected vehicle owners regarding when they can expect to receive remedy services, which will be provided at no cost.
Customers with questions or concerns regarding this recall are encouraged to contact Stellantis at the provided customer service number.
In a related note, last month, Stellantis also announced a recall involving approximately 207,000 Jeep and Dodge SUVs in the United States due to a computer issue that could disable vital safety features like the anti-lock brakes and electronic stability control. Furthermore, in September, nearly 1.5 million Ram pickup trucks across the globe were recalled to rectify a software issue impacting the electronic stability control system.
Recently, Stellantis disclosed that its CEO, Carlos Tavares, will be stepping down after nearly four years of leading the company.
On a broader scale, Stellantis faces challenges such as declining sales, which have resulted in workforce reductions and escalating inventory levels at dealerships. The latest quarterly report revealed a significant drop of 27% in net revenues compared to the same timeframe last year.
Stellantis ranks as the world’s fourth-largest automaker, a position it achieved through the merger of PSA Peugeot and Fiat Chrysler Automobiles in 2021.
