Overshown’s spectacular pick-six propels Cowboys to 27-20 Thanksgiving victory against Giants

ARLINGTON, Texas — DeMarvion Overshown made a significant impact in the Dallas Cowboys’ 27-20 victory over the New York Giants on Thanksgiving Day, returning an interception 23 yards for a touchdown. Rico Dowdle contributed to the win with a rushing touchdown during his first career game with over 100 yards, finishing the match with a total of 112 yards. This win marked a much-needed end to the Cowboys’ six-game home losing streak, which dated back to a playoff loss against Green Bay last season.

In this matchup, Cooper Rush connected for a touchdown pass, assisting the Cowboys, who now hold a 5-7 record. The Giants, still struggling, faced their seventh consecutive loss under Drew Lock, who substituted for the injured Tommy DeVito after Daniel Jones was benched and subsequently released. Lock managed to score a touchdown and rushed for 57 yards, but it was not enough to seize a victory against their NFC East rival.

The Giants initially took the lead for the first time since Week 5, but Overshown’s spectacular interception changed the momentum, putting Dallas ahead for the remainder of the game in the second quarter. Throughout their previous six-game skid at AT&T Stadium, the Cowboys were only in the lead for a total of 2 minutes and 15 seconds.

With Dallas leading by a narrow margin of 7-6, Lock attempted a screen pass to Devin Singletary after Overshown had overpowered the running back in blocking. Overshown skillfully tipped the pass into the air, intercepted it, and raced down the field to score unopposed.

In addition to his interception, Overshown followed up with a fumble recovery from Lock during the opening play of the second half, setting up Rush’s 2-yard touchdown pass to Brandin Cooks. This marked another consecutive win for the Cowboys, bouncing back from a previous five-game losing streak. Rush’s performance improved his starting record to 2-2 as Dak Prescott remains sidelined due to a torn hamstring.

Cooks, who hadn’t played since the earlier matchup against the Giants, sealed the victory by making a crucial diving catch for a first down in the final moments of the game. He had suffered an infected knee following an injection in New York after the previous game against the Giants.

During the first quarter, Dowdle put up 46 rushing yards, including a 22-yard carry—the longest of his season thus far. Although the Dallas offense initially thrived, their momentum diminished as the game progressed. However, the Cowboys’ defense proved to be opportunistic enough to maintain their lead.

Lock faced pressure throughout the game and was sacked six times, despite managing a 28-yard run that set up New York’s first touchdown and another 21-yard run before his 8-yard touchdown pass with 2:18 on the clock.

Injury concerns loomed as well, with the Giants’ standout defensive tackle Dexter Lawrence exiting the game due to an elbow injury, while D.J. Davidson also faced a shoulder injury during the first half. The Cowboys dealt with injuries of their own, with special team player Juanyeh Thomas carted off with a knee injury, cornerback Josh Butler sidelined due to a knee issue, and rookie left tackle Tyler Guyton forced to leave with ankle and knee injuries, leading to Chuma Edoga’s season debut.

Looking ahead, the Giants are set to host New Orleans on December 8, while the Cowboys prepare for a mini-break before welcoming Cincinnati on December 9.
