COLLEGE PARK, Md. — Tafara Gapare led the Maryland Terrapins with a strong performance, scoring 19 points, while freshman Derik Queen contributed 15 points and grabbed eight rebounds in a decisive 91-67 victory over Bucknell on Wednesday night.

The game began with Maryland establishing an early lead, opening with a 15-2 run before pushing it to 25-7 with just over 10 minutes remaining in the first half. By halftime, the Terrapins held a commanding 51-28 advantage. During the second half, Maryland maintained a lead of at least 16 points, highlighted by runs of 12-0 and 9-0, with Gapare scoring 10 consecutive points during one stretch.

Gapare’s highlight reel moment came with just over two minutes left in the game, when he executed a powerful dunk while being fouled, increasing Maryland’s lead to 89-62. However, he received a technical foul for stepping over Patrick O’Brien, who was positioned to take a charge. The subsequent free throws allowed Jayden Williams to score for Bucknell, and Gapare missed a free throw that would have tied his career-high of 20 points.

With this victory, Maryland improved to 6-1, extending their impressive home winning streak against unranked non-conference teams to 20 games, with their last defeat in this category occurring on December 1, 2021, against Virginia Tech during the ACC/Big Ten Challenge.

Other notable contributors for Maryland included Julian Reese, who scored 14 points, and Selton Miguel with 13 points. Gapare, who transferred from Georgia Tech, achieved double-digit scoring for the first time since joining the Terrapins. Maryland finished the game shooting 50% from the floor, including three 3-pointers each from Gapare and Miguel.

On the Bucknell side, Ruot Bijiek was the top scorer with 20 points, while Josh Bascoe chipped in with 10 points. The Bison struggled with ball control, committing 20 turnovers which resulted in 22 points for Maryland.

Looking ahead, Maryland will continue their homestand with a game against Alcorn State on Sunday, while Bucknell will head back home to face Siena on Saturday.
