BOLOGNA, Italy — The French football club Lille reported that two of its supporters were injured in a stabbing incident that occurred when a group of fans was ambushed in a bar on the eve of a Champions League match against Bologna.
Lille took to social media to denounce the “cowardly and intolerable attack,” which was said to have taken place on Tuesday.
The club’s statement revealed that approximately eighty attackers were involved in the ambush, resulting in stab wounds and other injuries to the two supporters, who subsequently required medical attention.
In response to the incident, local authorities in Italy have increased security measures to protect Lille fans attending the match.
Lille urged its followers traveling to Bologna to remain extremely vigilant to ensure their safety during the event.
