SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. — In a thrilling matchup on Tuesday, Cal Poly triumphed over Grambling with a score of 82-79, thanks to impressive performances from Owen Koonce and Isaac Jessup, who each contributed 17 points to the victory.
The final moments of the game saw a pivotal 3-pointer from Ernest Ross of Grambling, which brought the score to 80-79 with just 56 seconds remaining. However, Cal Poly’s Jarred Hyder clinched the win by converting two free throws only three seconds before the final buzzer.
Koonce’s performance wasn’t just about scoring; he also collected eight rebounds for the Mustangs, who now hold a record of 4-4. Meanwhile, Jessup added seven rebounds to his 17 points, showcasing his all-around game. Hyder’s contributions included not only his points but also an impressive seven assists throughout the game.
For Grambling, which now stands at 1-5, Antwan Barnett emerged as the top scorer with a strong showing of 21 points along with six rebounds.
