CANCUN, Mexico — In an impressive showing, Will Johnston scored 22 points for Loyola Marymount, propelling the team to a 77-63 win over Belmont during the Cancun Challenge on Tuesday evening.

Johnston also contributed defensively, recording three steals for the Lions (2-3). Jevon Porter was another standout player, adding 16 points on 7 of 14 shooting, including a couple of three-point attempts, and secured 12 rebounds along with three blocks. Additionally, Alex Merkviladze had a solid performance, making five of ten shots from the field, which included one from long range, to finish with 11 points.

On the opposing side, the Bruins (4-2) saw Jonathan Pierre lead their scoring efforts with 17 points and four assists. Brody Peebles supported the team by contributing 11 points, while Isaiah Walker added a well-rounded game with 10 points, nine rebounds, and four assists.

Loyola Marymount took command of the game with 10:19 left in the first half and maintained their lead the rest of the way. By halftime, they were ahead 36-25, with Johnston contributing nine points up to that point. The Lions continued to build on their advantage in the second half, even reaching a 47-29 lead after a strong 9-0 scoring run. Johnston came alive again to drop 13 points in the second half, solidifying his role in the team’s victory.
