PALM SPRINGS, Calif. — In an exciting matchup at the Acrisure Holiday Invitational, Grand Canyon managed to upset the previously undefeated Stanford with a final score of 78-71 on Tuesday night. Collin Moore led the Antelopes with a strong performance, contributing 15 points to help secure the victory. The team saw a total of five players reach double figures in scoring.
Moore’s electrifying dunk triggered a pivotal 12-3 run that pushed Grand Canyon ahead, 61-52, with 7 minutes and 24 seconds left on the clock. During this crucial stretch, both Makaih Williams and Ray Harrison connected on three-pointers, adding to the momentum.
As the game wound down, Stanford managed to trim the lead to six points on two separate occasions in the final minute and a half. Jaylen Blakes’ impressive three-point play brought Stanford closer, making the score 76-71 with only 11 seconds remaining, but the Cardinal could not close the gap any further.
In addition to Moore’s 15 points, Williams and Duke Brennan each scored 14 points for Grand Canyon (who now hold a record of 4-2). The Antelopes displayed excellent shooting skills in the second half, making 52% of their field-goal attempts (13 of 25) and converting 81% (17 of 21) from the free-throw line. Ray Harrison contributed 13 points, while JaKobe Coles added 10 points to the scoreboard.
Maxime Raynaud was a standout for Stanford (now 6-1), extending his remarkable streak of double-doubles to seven games with 29 points and 11 rebounds. His previous outing was also impressive, where he scored 32 points and collected 16 rebounds in a narrow win over Santa Clara.
In addition to Raynaud, Blakes achieved a personal best with 22 points, while Oziyah Sellers scored 12 points. However, the Cardinal faced challenges with their shooting, hitting only 38% (24 of 63) from the field overall and struggling even further from beyond the arc at just 18% (4 of 22).
In the first half, Sellers sunk a three-pointer that gave Stanford its largest lead at 20-13 with 11:28 remaining. Grand Canyon responded with a 9-1 run to briefly take a 22-21 lead, before Stanford regained a slight edge, entering halftime ahead by one point at 33-32. While Raynaud tallied 14 points in the first half, Moore led the Antelopes with eight points.
This game marked the inaugural clash between these two programs, adding an exciting chapter to their respective seasons.
