CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. — In a competitive matchup on Tuesday, Isaac McKneely led the way for Virginia with 18 points, while Andrew Rohde contributed 14 points, shooting an impressive 6-for-9 from the field. The Cavaliers managed to fend off a determined Manhattan team, ultimately securing a 74-65 victory.
Alongside McKneely and Rohde, Blake Buchanan added 11 points and five rebounds to the scoreline. Dai Dai Ames also made a mark with 10 points and five assists, while Jacob Cofie, coming off the bench, matched Ames with another 10 points along with five rebounds.
For the Jaspers, Wesley Robinson had a notable performance, scoring 12 points and pulling down five rebounds. Additionally, reserve Devin Dinkins chipped in 11 points, and Masiah Gilyard finished with 10 points and collected seven rebounds.
Despite an early 10-2 advantage for Virginia, the Jaspers stayed in the game. The Cavaliers (now at 4-2 this season) never found themselves trailing, maintaining a lead that often swelled to double digits.
As the game progressed, McKneely sank one of two free throws to extend Virginia’s lead to 61-48 with just over six minutes left in the contest. However, Manhattan (3-3) fought back vigorously, launching a 7-0 run that included a jumper from Dinkins, a layup by Gilyard, and a three-point play by Robinson.
Ames halted the Jaspers’ momentum by converting two free throws, followed by a jumper from Rohde that widened the gap to 65-55. Dinkins responded with his own pair from the foul line, and Will Sydnor added a layup for Manhattan, cutting the deficit to 65-59 with just 1:44 remaining in the game, but they couldn’t close the gap any further.
