CLEVELAND — In a tightly contested matchup, Cleveland State edged out NJIT with a narrow 56-53 win on Tuesday night.
Tevin Smith was a key contributor for the Vikings, scoring 13 points, shooting 4 for 11 from the field, and making 5 of 8 free throw attempts.
Cole Franklin also made a significant impact, recording 12 points along with three blocks.
Tahj Staveskie contributed to the team’s effort with a solid performance, finishing with seven points after hitting 2 of 4 from the floor and netting 3 out of 4 from the free-throw line.

For the Highlanders, who have struggled this season and now sit at 0-7, Tariq Francis was the standout performer.
He scored a remarkable 24 points, grabbed six rebounds, and provided five assists.
Additionally, Tim Moore Jr. supported the team with eight points and two blocks, while Jordan Rogers added another six points, unable, however, to turn the momentum in their favor.
The loss marked the seventh consecutive defeat for NJIT, extending their challenging start to the season.
